Project Manager for Transmission and Distribution

Salary Open - $150-$180K**

Our client is a major E&C firm with a large backlog of Transmission and Distribution projects and a major participant in the utility marketplace as well as the evolution of independent power. Their full range of services includes design and construction of Transmission/Distribution lines; Underground, Overhead and Submarine Cables. They are also leaders in generating station and integrated switchyard design, integration of new generation to existing switchyard and T&D facilities and new and retrofit of major independent substation facilities.

Experience required is as follows:

Public Utility, ISO (independent system operators) and/or regional grid knowledge in the areas of Transmission and Distribution;
EPC project management experience on a new construction (not just management the engineering portion)
General working knowledge of substation design and design issues related to grid or system interface; and
Experience with contractors and suppliers that service the T&D market segment

PURPOSE AND PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Responsible for the full performance of every phase of a large project or group of smaller projects. Responsibilities include planning, directing, supervising and controlling all technical, fiscal and administrative functions of the project.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Actively and prominently collaborates in proposal preparation, estimating, planning, and pricing. Participates in risk analysis/management and contract negotiation with customer. May lead proposal development team.
Manage overall project execution to contract scope and requirements including terms and conditions and performance parameters.
Establish and implement planning necessary to meet contract requirements; to control and complete project on time according to schedule, within estimated hours, budgeted cost and with high quality. Assure design to cost philosophy is implemented.
Maximize profitability; optimize integration of engineering, procurement and construction functions.
Establish/lead value engineering and/or margin improvement programs. Lead project continuous improvement effort and support company continuous improvement efforts and activities.
Oversee all work performed by internal and external resources. Gives priorities and direction to assigned personnel. Continually monitor all aspects of project performance to expected/planned measure (i.e., technical, cost, schedule, cash flow, etc.) and take immediate corrective action if necessary (e.g. seek out proper internal support, etc.)
Provide/communicate ongoing project related information to the customer and all other appropriate related/interested parties.
Quickly resolve all project issues or disputes, i.e., technical, staffing, interpersonal, contractual, financial, quality, etc.
Proactively monitor and maintain positive and effective customer relations; act as primary customer contact.
Negotiate/secure timely customer approval for project scope changes and contract modifications.
Effectively manage harmonious project union/labor relations and safety.
Supervise, direct, coach, develop and evaluate assigned staff.
Assure timely acquisition of all required permits, licenses, certifications, etc.
Assure full good faith compliance with company policies and procedures including Quality Assurance, Standard of Conduct, EEO, etc.


EDUCATION: College: BS Engineering discipline Special: PE license preferred

EXPERIENCE: At least 18 years relevant project related engineering and construction experience including at least five (5) years experience in a Project Engineering or Construction Management role.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Project(s) having a total constructed value of approximately $10-$50 million; generally shorter term (up to 2-4 years duration); complex; multiple disciplines; outside contractors/subcontractors/direct hire/union/non-union.
